CHARLOTTE, NC, May 8, 2007 - UK-based CAM vendor Delcam may be the fastest growing CAM company in the world at the moment according to the information presented to the assembled press at the Delcam Technical Summit 2007 in Charlotte, NC.
Why Charlotte? My press contact didn't know but thought it was because a customer (DMG) was willing to lead a tour through their facilities. I'm not complaining: Charlotte has an attractive downtown brimming with good shops and restaurants, even a skyline. It may be off the radar for event planners but that is their loss.

Now, back to the business at hand...
Delcam is coming fresh from a $12M investment by Renishaw, an investment traded for 20% of Delcam stock. Also, the company reported record revenues in 2006 (FY06 Sale Up 14% to 26.7M Pounds, Profit Up 9.6%). With all that cash on hand, expansion seems natural.
Delcam expansion into the US started with the acquisition of Salt Lake-based EGS, makers of FeatureCAM, in March of 2005. EGS was renamed Delcam USA. Adding Philadelphia-based PartMaker also helped US expansion as well as again increasing CAM software market share. The company bought Crispin, makers of shoe design software, at the end of 2006, to help solidify its product offerings in 2006.
As to where CAM software is being used, Delcam has been busy expanding into the far east and now has several offices in China. But hardly a quarter goes by without a Delcam press release about a new office somewhere... In fact, Delcam's display of red dots for offices* makes the world look like it has the measles. And since most of the Renishaw investment of $12M is probably still in the bank waiting to be spent, I think case of the measles will only get worse.
*Delcam 350 world wide offices include resellers and "joint venture' locations.
