SAN DIEGO, CA (SolidWorks World 2014) - DriveWorks, a UK company in business for 13 years, offers a configurator for SolidWorks. It can be used by sales people in the field to spit out a part based on what a customer wants. It can operate behind your company's website to give variations of your companies products. Suppose, they want to see the conveyor systems with more sections. DriveWorks will model it, show it -- and give a price. It's a salesman on meth, super fast and never sleeps -- except it's legal.
Fill out this short form...
--and DriveWorks instantly reconfigures your conveyor...
Under the hood ('under the bonnet for you Brits), DriveWorks makes it all happen with an 'Excel-like' language. Don't be fooled - the price for the magic must be paid by having to learn what amounts to a programming system. This is not like downloading an app and running it immediately afterward. And using a rules-based configurator presupposes that your company's product design procedure is mature enough and at the point that it can be codified. But if your company is indeed tying up engineers, designers, salespeople for what is a programmable sequence with a few decisions, you'd be fool to not try something like DriveWorks.
Take your brightest SolidWorks operator, unplug him for a few days, and send him to DriveWorks class at your local SolidWorks reseller. Be patient, as I suspect DriveWorks requires a fair amount of practice, sample projects, trial and error (as with any powerful programming system) -- then watch the magic!

||"DriveWorks amazes me every year. It lets companies actually realize the things we all imagined the first time someone explained parametric modeling to us: change the inputs and the design updates automatically. Among Gold Partners, DriveWorks stands out as having an excellent product with excellent support. It has always worked and delivered on its promise of automating engineering design. They are cheerful, enthusiastic and polite people. More than any other Gold Product, their pace of development continues to amaze. Many partners look the same every single year, but DriveWorks continues to deliver more and more functionality year over year. Their booth featured excellent interactive examples of different types of design automation and modes of delivery to the user. They had tablets hooked to input forms that were driving SolidWorks automation projects on servers on the other side of the world. In real time! They answered all questions thoroughly and showed a real interest in projects, opportunities, and challenges that their software might be able to help with. Everyone whose designs could benefit from automation, even a little, should have DriveWorks."|
|"If there was a product that is most likely to change the world due to changing conditions, it would be this one. DriveWorks has added a few cool new features to their gold-partner award-winning SolidWorks add-in, but I don’t think that’s what’s going to make DriveWorks one of the top plug-ins this year. With the gains in 3D-printing and customization becoming more-and-more mainstream, DriveWorks’ relevance has become significantly more substantial. Imagine being able to order your own custom action figure on-line… DriveWorks makes it possible, by handling the web-form creation, the model adjustment, the costing, the invoicing, sending an STL file to the 3D printer and all the other associated paperwork AUTOMATICALLY. DriveWorks is a smart 'Igor' that handles all the repetitive tasks, allowing the 'mad scientists' time to create more products."|
